Nature Hiking
What to Bring
Nothing dampens your day more then having to cut it short because of forgotten equipment. Use this checklist of recommended items to assist you in preventing this.
- Trail Map and/or guidebook
- Water (1-2 litres per person)
- Sunscreen and good-quality polarized sunglasses
- Insect repellent
- Hat (for protection or warmth)
- A signalling device such as a whistle (in case of problems)
- First aid kit with moleskins (for blister protection) and a small pair of scissors
- Binoculars
- Appropriate footwear and a change of socks
- Dress for potential weather
- High energy snacks or lunch
- A bag to carry out your garbage
A few precautions ...
- Wear sturdy footwear when hiking. Strong support from your
shoes will help ensure better footing and go a long way in
preventing sprains and falls.
- Sunscreen and insect repellent are crucial during hot summer
months.
- If hiking during black fly season, wear a bug jacket or bug
hat.
- Always carry fresh water with you to prevent dehydration.
- Don't forget to tell someone where you are going and when you expect to be back.
